Lake Toba fish farms

The article “Es brodelt am Vulkansee” explores the environmental and social tensions around Lake Toba, Indonesia, where industrial fish farming is polluting the water and threatening local livelihoods. Once a pristine volcanic lake, it has become a contested space between big business and traditional fishing communities. I traveled to Lake Toba to photograph these dynamics—capturing both the lake’s striking beauty and the growing unrest beneath its surface.
